Maj Gen Md Nayeem Chowdhury (retd)

Md Nayeem Ashfaque Chowdhury is a retired Major General from Bangladesh Army who has already submitted and defended his thesis for PhD on International Relations at Jahangirnagar University. A US permanent resident worked at Bangladesh Army and the United Nations (UN) for over 32 years in a diverse range of administrative, instructional, management and leadership positions, each in different challenging and multi-cultural environments. Each of the positions required deep involvement in strategic planning, administration, analysis and decision-making, academic, HR development and management, administration at various tiers, financial and budget management process, security and risk management. He has steered an inimitable and iconic real estate project of the Bangladesh Army for almost two years from the scratch and brought it to an enviable shape that drew the attention of national and international companies including the government machinery. A calm, visionary, dynamic, proactive, self-starter and capable leader work effectively and efficiently under pressure and makes sound decisions. Team building, innovation, sincerity and lead by example are his key to success. He is one of the very few officers of the Bangladesh Army who clinched three peacetime medals approved by the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh including the highest two.

• Performed as member of highest-level committee for military hardware procurement of Bangladesh Army & managed budget of approximately $1.1-2 billion per year

• Planned and implemented modernization of Army Aviation Group including procurement of military rotary and fixed wings aircrafts. Standardized and procured UAV for Bangladesh Army.

• Formulated and implemented different operational & perspective plan for Bangladesh Army

• Choreographed modernization and reorganization of Special Forces of Bangladesh Army.

• Established Geographic Information System (GIS) cell for Bangladesh Army.

• Acted as member of the Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention and led the licensing sub-committee.

• Orchestrated the fastest and most successful Anti-terrorism operation (Operation Thunderbolt-hostage rescue & terrorist annihilation operation at Holley Artisan Restaurant, Dhaka on 01 Jul 2016) in the history of Bangladesh. Acted as member of strategic decision-making forum and took strategic directives directly from Honorable Prime Minister. Conducted the press brief following the successful operation.

• Planned and supervised low intensity conflict including humanitarian assistance operations at Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), Bangladesh

• Planned and prepared the Division (approximately 48000 military and paramilitary forces) during near war situation against Myanmar in 2012
